My name is Annik Janssens, a Belgian wildlife artist specialising in realistic paintings in pastels and oils.

From a very young age, I felt a strong connection to animals and nature. Whilst others were playing, I spent hours drawing animals and observing their behaviour. That fascination has never faded and remains the driving force behind my work to this day.

​After studying graphic design, my career took a different direction for many years. Yet my love of art remained. When, years later, I picked up a pencil again to create an animal portrait, an old passion was rekindled. What began with a few commissions grew into an artistic journey that has now brought me international recognition.

 

​In my work, I strive to capture more than just an outward resemblance. I want to convey the character, the emotion and the unique presence of each animal. The eyes are often the starting point for a painting; they tell a story without words.

 

I find my inspiration in nature itself. During walks, travels and photographic observations, I study animals in their natural habitats. That direct connection with wildlife helps me to create authentic and personal works of art in which detail, atmosphere and emotion come together.
